Quick question,

If I attend a post-bacc or master's for a year or two outside my current state of residence (CA), do I lose the residency status if I want to apply to CA schools later on that prefer CA residents?

Thanks!

Depends on several factors. If you are younger (<22ish) and have a parent's house in CA to call home during the whole duration of your SMP, you will have no problems continuing to claim residency in CA. You'll want to keep your parent's house as your main address for credit cards, car insurance, car registration ect.

If you plan to have a job before/during/after your SMP in that other state and decide to file taxes there, you will not be such a clear cut resident of CA.
