Hi,

Which state besides Texas also have shortage of pharmacists?

Thanks

California has openings if you're willing to work in undesirable areas like in the desert

Any rural area is probably going to have jobs. From what I've heard from Recruiters Louisiana appears to have jobs.

I hear from recruiters from the following states every winter, and I expect to hear from them this winter as well:
Louisiana
Mississippi
Arkansas
Kansas
Oklahoma
Maine
Alaska

I don't hear from Texas- I must have annoyed a Cowboys fan at some point.

There are jobs everywhere (not just those states), but the major metropolitan areas are difficult to land a position in, especially if you are an outsider [why hire an outsider when you can hire a local?]

There are jobs in every state, even saturated ones. It's just the number of applicants who want to be in a specific area would outnumber the number of available positions. Thus making those spots more competitive or requiring some type of networking. They are there just really hard to get and come across. Some jobs are not even listed but by being proactive and asking, that's how I got mine.

Some states are just hard enough where it feels "impossible" and in some cases it is pretty close to impossible. Others have more openings, higher turnover. Even lawyers can get jobs, it's just few of them do and more and more end up in debt and unable to pay back. This is happening in pharmacy, traditionally a good field and pretty strong only a few years back, but has been happening across all career fields.

Fewaopi. How do I be proactive

I really don't care about location as long as its safe. No natural disasters, crime etc.

Shopping can easily be done online.

I tried walking into CVS and Walgreens and they tell me to apply online. Then I either never hear back or get a rejection from HR.

Is there a special way to get a job from them. I keep hearing people just apply online and hear back. Usually girls.
Do they hire based on appearances?

I'm a Asian male 5'10. Not super model material but not ugly by any means.

According to this it looks like the midwest is in need: http://pharmacymanpower.com/usstatemap.jsp

I don't really know how they get these numbers though, all the recruiters I spoke with seemed to say the need people in rural/northern Louisiana, Texas, basically the southeast (and likely the rural southeast, I'm here now and the cities seem saturated).

I'd be fine with moving to a city in the midwest if I can land a position there. I've kinda given up on my current city due to it being a metro area of around 1.8 million people and having 3 pharmacy schools here.
