If an applicant gives an opinion during the interview, should he or she also address the other side of the issue? I just stated my opinion and explained my reasoning during the interview. Now I'm seeing that maybe I didn't show my ability to "discuss."

If you don't like my thread, please don't respond.
I'm just very curious about what interviewers look for and would be happy to have some constructive feedback.
Thanks 🙂

I think what they're looking for is your ability to construct a sound, reasoned, supported argument. In other words, has any thought gone into your opinion on the issue in question?

I wouldn't worry too much about being able to address all sides of an issue. By asking your opinion, the questioner is implicitly acknowledging that there may be more than one side to things. If the interviewer wants to see how you address the other position(s), they would ask you something like, "Well, what if I said "X", or what if someone said "Y", would that change your opinion? Why or why not?"

Bottom line, relax.😀

Thanks 😀 (I suppose I should relax).

Hey, you're back.

I don't think you necessarily have to discuss both sides, but you should probably explain your opinion with well thought out reasons ("just cuz" is not an acceptible answer).

You can always have an opinion, just be certain that you can defend it and that you also acknowledge and understand other viewpoints about the debate or topic at hand. No one wants to see a strongly opinionated individual who fails to collectively take a look at all sides of the issue.

Yup, I'm back 😳
