Statistics on acceptance from waitlist

Anyone know if schools publish what percentage of their acceptances come off the waitlist?

In other words, what are our chances of getting in if we get waitlisted?

Unfortuately, there's no way to know ahead of time how many people will come off the waitlists. It varies from school to school and year to year. It depends on how many accepted applicants reserve a spot in the class. The good news is that LOTS of people come off the lists! In some classes, the majority of students were originally on a waitlist. I know the waiting is frustrating, but hang in there!

At UCSF I was told that "the wait list doesn't work". And that is a direct quote. It made me laugh.

I think it probably depends on the school. UCSF, for example, is cheap and great. Many of the people who get in will probably pick it above others for those reasons. Of course, all of those people are opening up spots at other med schools. I am hoping that wait lists DO work at most schools. I imagine they do, why would they have them otherwise?

Do you know what the person meant by that statement at UCSF? Just curious because I know a good number of people in my class who came off the "High Priority"/Ranked Waitlist - including me. In most years, 20-30% of applicants come off the high priority/waitlist - but of course it depends on the year. Thanks for any info. Take care,
