Does anyone know which is the most widely used Statistics software that is in use ??

Thanks heaps.

there's also a cult following for EpiInfo since it's available for free from the CDC. it's not as slick as SPSS or SAS, but it gets the job done....for that matter, so does microsoft excel!

Excel can get the job done if you are just looking for descriptives or a simple paired t-test, but other than that it's of little use. SPSS is probably the most widely used, but is a bit of a pain. Systat is a nice little program that does most of the basics, is not expensive and is pretty easy to use. I think Sigma stat is the most intuitive program that is on par with SPSS with regard to power and versatility.

Any idea as to how much it costs purchase SPSS ??

I am thinking of getting it and installing on my PC if it is not too costly, though my statistics background is relatively limited.

sorry, this was supposed to be an addition to the previous thread, by accident I have made it separate..

It's ok, I merged them for you. 🙂

check out u'r institution first-sometimes u can get a free copy from them if u'r a student, resident or member of the faculty. Also u can check the SPSS.com for vendors or online purchase.
Hope this helps🙂

Ditto with regard to checking with your institution about purchase. If your stats background is limited, you will probably want to look into taking an SPSS class, or a general stats class that uses SPSS. Because SPSS is so powerful, it is typically difficult for someone with a limited background to use and interpret. I don't believe there is a manual because, as with any modern software package. If you have some spare time, what you may want to do is download a trial version and run the tutorial and see how easy you pick it up. The trial version is fully functional, and is free for 30 days. The file is huge though.
