What are the stats on people dropping out of medical school? Is there many dropouts in med school or do most that are accepted go on to become doctors?

Better to ask this in the allopathic forum.

Previous threads indicated that the pass rate in medical school is near 100%.

Most schools try to help you pass. If you are doing badly they let you repeat courses and assign you tutors(etc.).

Once you're in, the school has a vested interest in keeping you in.

yeah, I think attrition rate is less than 1%, maybe the MSAR says? That statistic is one I have heard thrown around, and I think medical school definitely try to keep you when you're in. Plus, after all the trouble of applying and getting in, most people there actually want to be there.

Most people drop out (~1%) due to personal reasons: death in the family, illness, or they really weren’t that motivated in the first place. So if you get accepted to med school and you really want to be a doctor you most likely will – schools do all they can to help you pass because it looks poorly on them if you fail. Sure beats the roughly 30-40% that never finishes their bachelors.

Not to mention all the $$ the school loses if someone drops out.
