So i heard that Rush really favors IL residents and the student body is made up of mostly in-state students. What are the chances for an out of state person post-interview???

So my questions are:

What are the chances of getting an interview at Rush as an out of state applicant?

What are the chances post-interview for an out of state applicant?

Does anyone have any information on this? I would really appreciate it!

Also...anyone OOS got an acceptance from Rush yet?? If so when did u interview? Thanks!

Unfortunately, Rush does not interview very many OOS applicants. From the 2005-2006 they interviewed 65/2885 OOS applicants. Of the 65 that interviewed 22 matriculated. Last year I think they interviewed something like 97? I'm an OOS and interviewed Nov 20 and was waitlisted earlier this year 🙁

I thought it was a great school and I'm hoping to get off the wait-list (although I hear they rank it into 3rds and if you're not in the top 1/3 there's little hope).

IMO you need to demonstrate some connection to IL, for me I went to college there. Also, make sure you work hard on their secondary.

Someone asked this quesiton at my interview day and the admissions person said that if you made it to the interview, you have as much chance for an acceptance as somone from IL. The reason why Rush is so heavy on interviewing IL people is because they get IL grants that are dependent on the ratio of IL students to total students. If they dip below a certain percentage, they lose these grants. I think last years class was 20% out of state so there is still a chance.

i'm an OOSer, interviewed 11/29, acceptance dated 12/22. i also heard the same thing as the previous poster- that once at the interview stage, rush is seriously considering you. best of luck.

I'm OOS, interviewed in Nov and got an acceptance. I know at least 3 other OOS SDNers with acceptances. Good luck!

I'll echo what Monkey12 said as the same stuff was mentioned at the interview day I attended. It is harder to get OOS interviews -- I think interview decisions are the most selective step in the process for Rush w/ regard to OOSers. They are nice in that respect -- if you get an interview, you're chances of getting in are pretty good.

Personally, two things I think helped me: (1) I had a pretty clear vision of why Chicago would suit me as a candidate (b/c of the specific population I want to work with there and I knew a good deal about that population's needs); (2) my SO of 7 yrs is doing a grad program at UofI, so I had a clear connection to the state.

I'm from CA. I interviewed on 12/7 and got my acceptance on 1/11.

i saw on US News that for OOS, they interviewed ~95 last year and accepted ~67. ::good luck::

I'm an OOS resident. Interviewed on Dec 4 and accepted Jan 15. They told us all there that if you were an OOS resident, you actually have a better chance of getting in because it's difficult getting an interview there . That said, if you are an OOS resident and had an interview, you have a fair chance of getting in, so be optimistic. In addition, one of the admission staff told us that once you are on the waitlist, it is very difficult to get off of it because of the increasing number of applicants this year. But I'm hoping that won't be the case...Best of luck to all!

I declared residency in another state on AMCAS and then declared IL residency on my secondary so I'm not sure how my app is being evaluated. I moved and met the criteria for declaring in-state.

Again, this came up during my interview day, too. If memory serves, we were told that this year there were about 70 OOS interviewees for about 30 OOS spots, and they only evaluate OOS applicants against other OOS applicants. So, in- or out-of-state, your chances are roughly equal.
