Any tips on how to keep yourself up during the night to study? Do you drink or eat certain things that you know will keep you alert for hours? What works for you? 😕

adderall if you can get it................

workout before studying? are you sure....i like to work out so i have a good night sleep...hehe....but the answer to this question......SUPERSTAR!!!

does that to me too..but when i leave and jump in the shower....my mentality just drops and body goes to sleep

I take burning hot, five minute showers.Doesnt put me to sleep😎 Could also be the panic as in...oh ****, I havent done anything all day and now I have ten hours till go-time. Reminds me of DAT-studying..ahhh memories:meanie:

I can tell you not to use Vivarin... especially if you aren't used to large caffeine surges. Took it before an endocrinology exam... my eyes wouldn't focus, my heart was pounding, my legs wouldn't stop shaking and I couldn't concentrate. Worst exam of the semester and I thought Vivarin would help. I would NOT rec. it.

you and your drugs.......HAHA jk

drugs are bad in the short and long run. A pack of mountain dew will keep you going for an hour then it is lights out...bad thing about caffiene. Adderall is good, but requires prescription...

I drink water and a catnap works wonders.

However if you saw me during my restorative lecture you would have seen another story...nodded off big time.😀 😴 👍

I remember taking caffeine pills will taking biochem. I think they were called "No Doz." They did the job too well, IMO. They effect lasted long after the test was over. :scared: Def not recommended.

Exactly No Doz basically = Vivarin... both are only supposed to be equiv. to 2 cups of coffee... but I guess I'm not a huge coffee drinker.

the only time i took vivarin, i popped 2 and then fell asleep within 10 min lol

Ive heard that popcorn keeps you up..

power nap between 10-12 and then wake up at 12 and work through the morning. and keep the room really cold. helps keep you up. its never failed once. well except if you don't wake up

Effecient napping is the key. Caffeine should be used like nitrous, for short bursts of energy. Try to sustain a caffeine burn and you'll just blow the intake rings off of your piston valve, you'll have re-surge the hydrocoil to invert the temporal flux generator and SHUT 'ER DOWN

I recommend sleeping from 10-3am or so and then waking up and doing work. This way your mind will be fresh and you won't be as exhausted for the test or whatever and the material will be fresh in your mind. Works for me.

I typically took caffeine pills or drank mountain dew (diet, if that matters). What I didn't like about caffeine is that when I was done studying, I would have a difficult time falling asleep. Somewhere you can find the half-life of caffeine, that might be a useful fact to know.

I also liked a product called Powerdrive by Biotest. It's supposed to help you concentrate. While I didn't "feel" anything while "on," in retrospect I was able to study for extended periods with little or no breaks. It doesn't cost a lot, so it might be worth a shot.

Take a couple servings of that or any other legitimate neutropic supplement and you'll be gold.

I wouldn't recommend caffeine because it gets my heart rate going. Whenever I get sleepy, but must stay awake, I wet my face with freezing cold water. It seriously wakes you right up. You know what else helps me? Jumping jacks and crunches (blood surges to your brain= instant wake up).

Once I was hosting a party at my house...and then got really sick two days before and was passing out really early, so the night of the party, instead of drinking alcohol with my friends, I kept a bottle of dayquil in my pocket and took a shot of the stuff every 30-45 minutes. I was totally attentive and awake all night. I was a little twitchy by the time everyone left though.

Also, electrodes on the ball sack set to shock you at random intervals is a wonderful way to torture yourself and stay awake.

diet pepsi keeps me up...well it did when i first started college, and i'm sure it's just a total placebo now, it's like i have convinced myself i cant stay up without drinking pepsi 😀

Here is the key to a successful "all-nighter"...

http://www.wikihow.com/Pull-an-All-Nighter

this has good stuff.

With caffiene...you gotta know how to use it to benefit. I have used Vivarian (sp??) for long tests like DAT because it doesn't have the fluid that makes ya pee. But if you drank a bunch of water right before you'll have to pee anyway. Also, you can crash and get headaches if you get hooked on this stuff. The reason why people "need" their caffiene in the morning.

Also, for a non coffee or soda drinker to all of a sudden take a stimulant for a test or to study...bad move. It's a delicate balance between focusing your mind and going overbored to the point where your eyes focus about a mile behind your test.

I'd follow the above link before taking a stimulant...stay away from Rx.

Finally someone's got the right idea👍

Seriously though, you guys seem to have a lot of experience with all-nighters. I always found that getting a full nights sleep was the best way for me to study my best.

just focus...ive pulled all nighters since freshman year of college till now in dental school...

college pulling all nighters is cool...
but in dental school...when u are in class from 8-5, then lab work, then studying...its not a good idea to pull all nighters cuz once ur schedule is effed up...ur entire week is offffffffffff.....so instead....uve got to study efficiently maximize ur time....eat properly and work out--do something active...

😉 I wouldn't recommend pills like adderall or whatver. That stuff is so bad for you. You should try taking a short nap before studying like 30-45 minutes. But all nighters are hard during dental school and you should try just cafiene, ie coffee, tea....chewing gum as opposed to snacking because you'll gain a couple of poinds if you eat while you're studying. Good luck with it. 🙂

one word....adderall

although its a controlled substance i would suggest to just try it one time to study for an exam when ur tired. chances are u'll be able to study all night long, dont have to work about the snacking since u wont get hungry. if its not for dont use it again.

hey....what do you guys do when you CANT sleep??......i always sleep in the morning but stay up all night and cant sleep?

melatonin .. knocks me out in about 40 minutes

agreed melatonin does work but if u use it too much it stops working.

Melatonin simply shifts your circadian rhythm to an earlier time period. It's better and has infinitely less side effects than other alternatives.
