STD's are interesting to me. My question is, do Urologist treat these diseases in their patients, or are they generally treated by the specialists at the front lines of medicine (i.e. Family Practinioner, Internist)?

the answer is all 3, but a person is most likely to go to their PCP before a urologist (and many insurances in fact require it) so it often doesn't get to the urologist but it is considered within the scope of their practice.

If STD's are really that interesting to you, you should do a primary care residency followed by a masters in public health, then go to work for a health department.

Yes, urologists are expected to be knowledgeable about STD's, but whenever someone wants to see me about one, I refer them to the Health Department, where a system is set up for reporting, contact treatment, etc.

Yes STDs are treated by Urologists, Family med doc, ER docs if your in an ER room, and Internists (heck even planned parenthood (NPs at times). STDs are becoming extremely prominent in today's society, I see so many patients in clinicals from young to old to wealthy to poor, to it was my first or I was a virgin, you name it...
