To all preparing for step 1.
My friend just got his step 1 scores...
99%-269

all he did was review his med school notes & the youel's prep course & their review exams. seems like a great course!

good luck!

What kind of commission do you get for getting customers from SDN? Is posting crap like this a good way to make money?

So, are you saying that for the average medical student that reviewing your notes and doing Youel's will get them a 269? Hardly.

I think the person who got the 269 was probably a top notch student. The review course might have bumped his/her scores up some, but it's unlikely to have significantly altered the score (e.g., I don't think the person would have scored a 220 without Youel's).

Youel's is the worst... dont' use it! Its all mnemonics... and if you don't like mnemonics, you won't like Youels'. Our school gives it to us free... I didn't even show up becuase it just gives me a headache.

ANd the mnemonics are completely obscrube... you'd almost need a mnemonic for the mnemonic.

Or, perhaps your friend retained so much from the first two years and was just so damn smart to begin with that he didn't need any other type of review.

Your friend is not the average student when considering that he must have taken the exam in November/December to have "just" gotten his scores back.

I have spoken to many students that have taken Dr. Youels' review. They say his Youels' jewels were helpful on the boards.
One review course can't explain you friends exceptional performance.

hi,
269. wow. i could only dream of having a step 1 or 2 score like that. yet, having passed step 1 myself...i must say that to score a 269 indicates far more about the person taking the exam than what review course he/she took. in my opinion...your friend probably has high natural aptitude when it comes to taking exams like these. ask your friend what he/she got on his SAT/ACT/MCAT scores. i woht be surprised if they were 1300+/33+/33+. friends like yours are wonderful people to learn from in terms of the knowledge and how to approach the exam. but to use them as templates for your own personal predictions would be far fetched. take care! congrats to your friend again.

my friend used youel's and failed the first time. Totally skipped using it the second time and passed with a much better score. So, who knows?

I'm a second year student getting ready to decide how to really dig into COMLEX Step I prep. I received a free set of Youel's Jewels and I have to say it uses a very different approach to organizing info than other prep books I've looked at. I will agree with the above poster: it is a LOT of mnemonics, some of which might work for you and others not so much. On a whim I took the pre-test that's included, which was a bad idea because it sent me into a bit of a panic. However once I started from the beginning of the material, all the answers were right there. I suppose if someone were to use this system alone, he or she could get a false sense of security because the questions are verbatim from what was taught and you don't have to really apply it much so I don't know how useful the test is to gauge your preparedness for the real thing. That said, my test prep is still just beginning so as I get more into it and get a better feel for the YJ system I'll see how it helps me do in other question banks and post again.

Where do you find Youels Jewels?? Is it a review course or review packet? Is it available for download?
