Is it worth buying Kaplan's Step 1 Qbank for several years, to increase the # of Qs? Or do they typically keep the same questions over several additions?

The latter.

More importantly, let me be the first to tell you that aside from using review books during your M1 classes, trying to outgame the Step 1 exam before you've even stepped foot in a med school class is futile.

I wouldn't even open the books until my second year. I would just have started to collect questions so that I would have more than plenty by the time I got to studying for the Step 1. I just don't want to run out of questions like I did studying for the MCAT.

Fair enough. You should have plenty of time subscribing to Qbank for the 3 months prior to your Step 1. The other question sources you can keep an eye out for (which are available online for the most part 😉 ) are IV Qbank, Board Simulator Series, Kaplan Qbook, Robbins Review of Pathology question book, NMS, Webpath, Appleton & Lange, and First Aid has a new Q&A book coming out soon. There is also a series of books called PreTest that covers each subject individually and is supposed to be alright for review, though not in the clinical vignette format found in Step 1.

Between all of these options, and the other online question banks like USMLERx and USMLEWorld you shouldn't have the problem of running out of questions. Motivation might be another issue, though.

I'm sure that will be plenty. Thanks for the advice. 👍
