I just saw that there's an actual content outine for the STEP 1 exam (maybe because I'm still a year out from the exam and haven't been really looking for it, or maybe I'm just behind the times)...😛

http://www.usmle.org/Examinations/step1/step1_content.html

They do say in the intro:

The content outline is not intended as a curriculum development or study guide. It provides a flexible structure for test construction that can readily accommodate new topics, emerging content domains, and shifts in emphasis.
Just wondering if people actually use the detailed info in the PDF as a checklist when preparing for the exam... I'm a sucker for checklists and crossing things off and all other things OCD:laugh:

I tried to look at that before the step.

Yeah, they might as well have said "know everything" because it is not useful at all.

Anyone who knows of a better content outline or who has an idea of how to modify the USMLE content outline to meet their needs?

You can get widely varying questions from different subjects/systems from exam to exam. Some people have a lot of pharm, some people have a lot of neuro, etc. It's not evenly represented and that's why there's no good content outline. Some subjects are "traditionally" low yield (anatomy, biochem, etc) but that just means that instead of a range of questions from 40-50, the range is closer to 5-15.
