Step 1 during internship

Hello,

Anyone out there take USMLE step 1 during their intern year? If so, how and when did you find time to take it?

I'm guessing he's an IMG who has completed his MD and now wants to enter residency in US. It'll probably be more helpful to move this thread to internationals?

It all depends on your schedule, can you dedicate atleast 2 hours a night + about 4-8 hours on the weekend to board studying? All you need is FA + UWorld + goljan audio and you should be able to do good on the step 1. But like I said as its your intern year I assume your hours are a little crazy...

I am DO student also and taking my USMLE step 1 after my rotations start, so I hope it doesn't come back to bite me the butt...

But you haven't taken step 1 yet? Are you talking about step 3?

Or have you taken level 1/2 of the COMLEX and now want to take USMLE to look better to ACGME PDs? That being the case he may indeed wish to take USMLE step 1.

That would suck to have to go back and study all that crap again. But I guess you do what you gotta do.

Oral Maxillofacial Surgery does it this way. Its tough to take it during you intern year but it can be done.

Thanks, and yes, this is exactly the case. I will be applying (now) and have been told by many that taking the usmle will increase my standings.
