Hi,

I am a US citizen who attended SGU in Grenada. I recently finished my second year and took the step 1 exam. I scored 208 in my Step 1 exam and I would like to know if I have any chance of obtaining residency in USA. or should i be thinking about a career change?

Thank you

Not 100% sure as I'm in school in the US but I would imagine that could get you into a family medicine program. Most likely it would be more of a community based program not at a big academic hospital. Some other factors would be how well your clerkship grades are, recommendations, any research or EC experience, etc. Good luck though.

Career change after 2 years in medical school? I think you should be able to get into a decent Family Med program. I think the mean USMLE step 1 score for Family Med is about the same as your score. Check out the NRMP website for more details.
I suppose focus on doing well in clinical years and try to do better on your Step 2. I think you should be OK for a decent family med program. Goodluck!!

I think he can get in two, but dont think it will be as easy as you can.
1) his score is slightly lower then the average FM and
2) being a FMG is a huge hit.

OP i would say you have a shot at FP, Peds, Psych, and maybe some IM programs. Other then that you would be a huge long shot.

Granted...most/all of us here probably have no real clue what we are tlaking about when it comes to this 😉
