I need to know what is the best material available for Step 1 prep ..
there are many sources as i noticed ..

are some better than others ?
are kaplan notes the usual essential material for Step 1 prep ??
is First Aid considered a good source - especially that its considerably smaller material - ?

thx

:smack:

1. multiple passes of FA
2. some sort of qbank(s) (UW preferably close to exam)
3. Pathoma/Goljan/other sources if you are weak in any particular areas

But hey don't take it from me, I'm not even in med school yet. I'm just a mere plebian that reads and uses the search function.

1) First Aid: must have
2) UWorld QBank: must have, do questions timed in blocks of 46 or 48 whatever the test is now. Then spend a good amount of time going over the explanations, keep notes.
3) RR Path: I used this along with Goljan's audio during my path course so i had it all highlighted so it was much easier during step studying.
4) At the most pick one or two review books in things you are weak in I'd reccomend something in physio since i thought first aid was weak in physio.

Also, i dont know your schedule but give yourself 4-5 weeks MAX to study or you will burn out. I studied for 7 weeks and felt completely burnt out at the end of week 5 and feel i cost myself 5-10 points in the extra two weeks.

totally agree!

Goljan audio is great actually ..

any idea about a certain distribution percentage of step 1 subjects ?

like 20% for physiology etc..

some topics (not necessarily specific subjects) are more high yield than others, but I don't think there are hard and fast percentages. It also depends on your specific tests. I know anatomy is low yield, but I have heard people having few anatomy questions to having several. it just depends.
