Two step or even Three Step problems. However, there aren't that many sources that provide solid practice into these type of questions.

Qbank- seems kinda "nitpicky" tough rather than two step or three step problem solving tough. Qbank anatomy/embryology is a great example. Transposition of the great vessels.

Appleton and Lange - just seems elementary, and 1st order.

BSS - is just rigorous because the scope of the questions is too detailed rather than test your ability to think and apply.

Does anybody have any good ideas for questions that are good resources for the thinking type of questions (or two step/3 step application questions that are on Step 1?

I hate to say it, but I'll probably pay the $45 dollar fee TWICE in slow practice mode, so I can break down the exam.

From what I've seen, the nbme assessments are the most accessible source for the multiple-neuron questions. Of course, an even better source is the second year shelf exam, and if you've taken the major ones (microbio, path, behavioral, pharm, physical diagnosis) that means you've encountered 625 solid usmle-style questions to get experience with the thinking step-wise process involved. The problem is, not everyone can take these shelf exams, and sometimes even when they do, they don't take them seriously or use them as learning tools.

Where do you get these shelf exams are they online somewhere?

I believe you have to get them through your medical school. Your dean or someone has to order them for the courses and yada yada. Most schools have these shelf exams at the end of each course (biochem, path, micro, etc) to test how much you've learned from them
