Since we dont get it in our score report, I was just wondering if someone knows how to convert our 3 digit scores into percentile?

I got a 231/99. And I was wondering what percentile that was. I have a feeling its somewhere around 70th percentile...but I was wondering if someone has a more accurate idea?

PS: Just wondering....is 231/99 a competitive enough score? I was looking into orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology, rad/onc, cardiology. What are my chances?

The website I used is down but here's another one - http://www.medfriends.org/step1_estimator/USMLE Step 1 Score Percentile Conversion.htm

It has the avg as 217 instead of 221 so it slightly over-predicts but it sounds like you are around 70th

Your score is more than competitive aka above avg for anes, and internal (to get to cardio). Below avg for ortho and rad/onc but far from killing your app. You definitely have a great chance to match either according to

http://aamc.org/programs/cim/chartingoutcomes.pdf

People always fret about average step 1 for diff specialties but obviously plenty of people match into those specialties with a score below the avg

Good luck

what's the difference between that calculator and this one:

(replace ***** with clinicalreview)

also, what does the 2 digit number represent? from what i heard it's not the percentile... i know this has been asked numerous times, but i have yet to find a straight answer... if someone could elaborate, i'd appreciate it! :)

The 2-digit score is used by some state medical boards for medical licensing purposes. It's basically outdated and from what I understand, everybody focuses on the 3-digit score.

That's actually the site I used to use - just didn't realize the link had slightly changed so I thought it was down
