Step 1 Studying

You could add "Goljan Course" to the list, but I think the responses will be >75% self-study.

I could never imagine taking a course to study for the boards. I also studied on my own for the MCAT. I just dont like the idea of wasting my time in classes that I know well, and not getting enough of what I dont know well. I plan on studying on my own.

I will be taking the Kaplan course, but only b/c it is paid for by my school. It never hurts to have someone who has seen many more exams than you walk you through some of the most important concepts.

That said >75% of my study time will be on my own.

I always figured I'd take the course, since I took the Princeton Review course for the MCAT and it was incredibly helpful. However, I've realized that the MCAT course was helpful because my "premed courses" didn't cover all the material I needed to pass the test, whereas my med school courses teach to the test- to the point that since the boards don't use questions like "all of the following except..." neither do our tests. I've also discovered that I'm a much better self-studier than class-goer (I go to class once every 3 weeks or so for review sessions), I'm probably better off sticking with what works for class than trying to change study habits for the boards.
