Just took it the other day. Challenging, but doable. Anyway, was wondering if anyone knew exactly how long it takes to get our scores back? I've heard so many conflicting reports that I don't know what to believe anymore. On test day, I heard six weeks. From classmates, I hear that it only takes 4 weeks. Others have said that our registrar gets the scores before we do. And I've also heard some people say we can check them online?!? Anyone know what the real deal is? I'm gonna be on vacation for over the next five weeks or so, so is there anyway for me to get access to my scores before I return for 3rd year? Thanks!

this is from someone at my school who took it in april..
1. she couldn't register for it online right away so she knew that she passed. she said that most students were doing that just to see ....
2. she received her actual scores by mail in about 3 1/2 weeks.
3. couple of others said it took them 6 weeks. took it in the same week as the first one. so i guess the time frame is 3-6 weeks.
hope this helps. i'm sure that you did well.... guess the waiting is the worst!

How do you do the registration trick to see if you passed?

I think you just try to register from the nbme site for taking the usmle step 1 again. If it doesn't let you do it, i think it means that you passed.

But I am not 100 % sure on this. I think I will just wait until it comes to my school on wednesday.

It works for everybody, but is only about 80% sensitive...many people are falsely able to register, and find out later that they passed. Probably not worth the time, since US students will find out within 3-5 days of the earliest date you can check on OASIS, I believe.

What is Oasis? I know you can register via NBME.org, is this the same thing? If so, how far into tghe application process must you go? What if your exam staus is still "scheduled" instead of "complete"? Who's burried in Grant's tomb?

I was going to ask the same question about how far you go into the application...do you submit the part A (or whatever it was)? Also, who IS burried in Grant's tomb?

How do you check exam status? 😕

Thanks for the info guys. Guess there's really nothing left to do but wait and enjoy the rest of my vacation. For all those waiting, I'm sure you guys rocked it! A recent study by the AAMC found that the average Step 1 score of SDN'ers to be 240, approximately 1 SD above the mean. 😉 Peace out.

I'm not all that sure that I can survive until Wednesday. I've been pretty successful at just putting it in the back of my mind and not thinking about it, but ever since BigFrank got his score, this thing is completely and thoroughly inside my head. I dream about that stupid score every night!!

Any sympathizers?? 🙁

MediCane, I'll bet your score will surprise you -- in a very good way! Only a few more days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

congrats to you all who just finished boards.

i agree with bigfrank...on my test day, i left feeling like crap thinking, "how big was that train that hit me?"

when i got my score, i was pleasantly surprised. a lot of my friends found that to be the same.

good luck medicane, and i hope you broke that two-foty 🙂

My roommate got his score today in Los Angeles. But he left it in the mailbox. Can't believe that. Amazing.

I've only been in the internal medicine ward for a week now, and I've already forgotten about my step score and how much I worked for it. It's funny how two years of your life can revolve around a single exam, and then once you take it and get the scores back (and pass 😉 ), it just doesn't seem so important anymore. I guess that's a good thing though, considering how stressed we all get about it

Jalby...

When mine comes I just hope I have the guts to open it. I'm not all that worried about failing (sure hope I didn't just jinx myself  ) but I'm more than a little concerned about what the actual number will be. Anyway. Only 3 more days to wait.

On a side note, it was actually a survey for the USMLE step I test. He was soooooo pissed.

Lol...omg...that's what happened to me. The USMLE folks send out a manila envelope which contains surveys. On the other hand, your scores are mailed as a piece of paper folded in half with edges pasted together. Given the magnitude of the information contained in the score report, it really is a flimsy piece of mail.
