If you're doing things the normal way, you dont register until next spring! There's a website - dont recall the addy this second, but your registrar would know - and you fill it out, print out some papers, get some passport photos, get it stamped by your registrar with the school seal and send it in - then you get this hideous orange card in the mail and then you chan choose your date and testing center either by calling or online.
Like I said, chill. You dont need to register now. You'll probably get the info sometime around january, and your school will help you along and give you plenty of direction.

If you plan on taking the test in a city with several medical schools, you should register as soon as possible. My school is in philly, and our dean advised us to register in the fall. The testing sites won't let you schedule a date until 6 months or less before the start of your "eligiblity period", however.

The houston area has 3 major medical schools, and there are NO centers in Galveston, let me tell you! Closest (most desirable) was ~30 minutes from the island in excellent traffic. I registered in January, and picked my date/center in february. got 1st choice of both. About 1/2 my class waited (not sure why ???) to register until like April and were still able to get test dates in the last 2 weeks of June (most desireable here, b/c we started 3rd year July 1st). By mid-may, though, people were having trouble getting the date/center they wanted or switching date/centers. Some had to do some serious driving, involving overnight hotel stays, if they waited THAT long. But seriously, dont panic yet. You're fine. If you're worried, go get the info from the registrar or somebody who's already registered.
