hey guys, I just saw that my step 2 score went down to 209 from a Step 1 score of 219. Needless to say, I'm pretty upset, but have been thankful to have received a number of interviews already from places like Georgetown, Maryland, NYU, and 5 others. How badly will my drop affect my chances of matching at a program like NYU? The rest of my application is very solid, and I have especially strong LOR's.

My question is, when a program invites you to interview, are you considered to be on the same page with everyone else invited (i.e. you have met their academic standards and then some, to a point where they want to interview you)? Or, do we have a situation where a program that may have been keen on me is more likely to drop me quite a bit in their rankings? How can I feel about securing future interviews? Be brutally honest, and I appreciate the advice. I hope to one day be in the position of the residents and attendings on this forum so that I might be able to offer advice to people in my shoes. Thank you!!!

Anyone have any input for me? Thank you all😳

What is done is done! When you interview, interview with confidence. :luck: on the interview trail.

According to "Iserson's getting into a Residency," interviews are often weighted heavier than your last 3 1/2 years of med school. Get your teeth whitened and your hair did and make sure to shine when you get to NYU.

As for future interviews, I agree with the above, whats done is done. Just take the interviews you get and rock em.

a 219 is a solid score on step 1.
you shouldnt have taken ck this early unless you were going to study extremely hard, it is overalll an easier test if you just put the time in so dont feel bad the score means essentially nothing, but it was bad timing.
also, you should know this about NYU, they interview EVERYBODY, it was like a cattle call at my interview day and i have the same step1 score but did not take step 2 at the time, i matched at a place i ranked higher than NYU but some may consider less prestigious, cuz i didnt get a good vibe at NYU.
i wouldnt consider their interview any more than a computer generated reaction to your application clearing some screens.
you are weighing too much on this place trust me
of all the places i interviewed (inc yale, etc) i felt like NYU I had the least chance due to the sheer volume and people dead set on manhattan. so DO NOT bank on it or think any human has even looked at your file - this is not true at other smaller, and even other academic places like gtown
i would say NYU is less of an option now, too many good candidates with that score with either no step 2 or equal or better step 1 and step 2

Gtown i would say your chances are still good, let them know you are interested at the interview, they interview a lot of people but they have a hard time knowing who is serious and this is important to them not to fall down in their list too far. (ie they want the people who want to be there)

Maryland same deal as Gtown though they are very random, i did not interview there.

Is there any chance you can just withhold the scores? and only give them if asked?

As someone else has already said, interview with confidence. Do not mention your scores unless asked. Act like there's nothing wrong with them. You should still do fine.

Thanks for the responses guys! Any opinions on Miami, Rush, Albert Einstein, St. Luke's, Drexel, or UMDNJ Camden? Thanks as always and good luck to everyone interviewing!!:luck:

I'd imagine your USMLE scores will be just fine for most if not all of these. There is a St. Luke's thread somewhere in the anesthesiology forum archives. Not sure whether they are talking about the program in NYC or the one in Pennsylvania, but here's the link: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=400984

I've heard thirdhand that the Albert Einstein program is tough and very few residents stay on as attendings.

did you automatically release your scores? hopefully not. reviewed miami in the past so check the review thread.
some programs wipe the slate clean when you walk in the door for the interview. but most programs consider the applicant as a whole, usually giving points for scores, grades, interviews, etc.
