Step 2 CK required to rank?

Just wondering if Step 2 CK is required to rank?
Due to elective scheduling and MD thesis research requirement, I haven't been able to take the CK. I am currently scheduled to take it on Jan 22nd and according to the 3-4th Wed rule, I should be able to receive my score on either Feb 8th or Feb 15th.

Is that too late for the programs to rank me?
Should I just go in and take it next week or something after some cramming?

It depends on the program. A few programs require Step 2 completion before ranking, but I still think that's really (unless things have changed since I applied). Programs that require it for ranking are pretty upfront about it.

Very few require it, but even "requirements" can be worked around.

Just wondering, when are they usually done with the rank list?
End of Jan or right before the deadline?

it depends on the program - remember some finish interviewing in december whereas others interview right through a week before the rank list is due.

Off the top of my head, I remember Michigan for sure being one of the programs requiring Step 2 prior to ranking. UCSF might be another, but I somehow overlooked their extra essay requirement until late Nov last year, so I didn't end up interviewing there.

I think University of Utah and University of New Mexico do as well....
