Any input from anyone who has taken this lovely new addition to our testing regime would be greatly appreciated....
1)was it pretty straightforward...or anything really tricky?
2)how did you prepare for it?
3)any really tough patients to interview where they were just trying to make it difficult on purpose (seductive pt, angry pt, or any that you couldn't understand, etc.)
4) any other advice....

thanks!

It's pretty darn easy. No hard cases. straight forward. You start the day with about 30 minutes of orientation then you see 5 patients in a row...everyone stands in front of a door and you go in when prompted. You interview patient, do a FOCUSED exam and leave the room. Then you write your note. It takes one or two patients to get a rhythm on timing. The more time you spend in the room the less time you have to write your note.....But, you can't go back in once you leave the room....need to find a balance. After the 5 patients you take a 30 minute lunch break. The facility provided a free lunch. Then you see 4 more patients. Then you get a 15 minute break. Then you see 3 more and your done. It's not like CK where your allowed to leave or study during the break. They lock you in the "test" area all day.

Used First Aid for CS....more than enough!

Good Luck!!

I second First Aid. Good book.

It was fairly straight-forward - then again, our school was one of the "pilot" test sites (we just discovered this) for the past few years, so we were used to the 12-patient OSCE format.

I totally agree. I actually posted this a while back on another forum and I got blasted for the same thing. Forgot to delete that part when I pasted. Sorry...It's a $975 lunch. 🙂

Swaydaa hit it right on the head with the format of the test. Everything is straight forward. Just browse a physical examination book the night before and you will be set

I skimmed Bates' Guide to PE & H&P on the flight the night before, was more than enough
