I understand that some programs have Step 1 cutoffs to obtain interviews. I made a 219/89 on step 1 and improved my step 2 score to 237/98. I have personally spoken to a few secretaries and they said they had a cutoff of 220/90 for step 1. This was before I had my step 2 score back. My question is does my step 2 improvement open some doors that were shut because of the cutoff? I was thinking of calling a few programs I was interested in and asking if I should even apply there. I do not want to waste my money with application submissions starting very soon on Sept 1st.

Thanks,

Go ahead and spend the money anyways. It is small amount in the whole scheme of things. I would apply and specifically call and make sure they have both scores and are aware of it if you are seriously planning on going to one of the applied programs. I got almost identical scores on both test to yours and got several interviews in programs around where you are located as well as elswhere.

Yes your improvement will open those doors for you. Just apply where you want to apply to. With those scores, you should do just fine.
