Step 2 Not Showing on ERAS Submission

What is the earliest time I can take Step 2 and guarantee that it won't show up on my ERAS application? I want to have the choice of submitting it to residencies or not, but want to make sure that it doesn't show up if I don't want it to just in case I bomb it.

USMLE says that scores typically take 3-4 weeks. ERAS submission is Sep 29th. So if I take it on say Sep 12th will it definitely not show up? Or is there a chance that USMLE will decide to release in 2.5 weeks rather than 3 weeks and that it might show up.

For it to show up on your Eras, you have to manually update your application after the score comes out. It does not automatically update by itself. Also, keep in mind that you cannot match without a Step 2, and some programs also won't even rank you without having your Step 2.

Edit: ***Correction because I originally thought you were part of the current match cycle. But Scores typically come out on the second or third Wednesday after you took your exam. So, if you take it on Sept 12th, your score would be out on Sept 21st or 28th. That means your score will be available when you submit your Eras on the 29th (unless you decide to submit your Eras super early) because when you hit the button to submit your USMLE transcript, it will send all available scores (Step 1 and 2). If your score is not out by the time you originally submit Eras, then that's when you would have to go and update it later when it's available.

You only have to manually update if your score comes out after ERAS submission on Sep 29. If it comes out before then it will be transmitted along with my Step 1 score.
