Step 2 vs. Step 1

Everyone always asks "what percentage" do you need to pass step 1...well, what percentage do you need, roughly, to pass step 2? Is it about the same or is it a higher percent do you think? Just kinda curious what the ideas out there are.

Here's another question: the folk lore is that you have to study alot less for 2 than 1 (2 months for 1, 2 weeks for 2, 2 minutes for 3 - you've heard it before). Also the pass rates are supposed to be higher and people also say that you can add about 50 points to your 1 score for 2 with the same or less effort. Anyone out there know about this?

My experience with Step 2 is most people I know get pretty much the exact same score on Step 2 as on Step 1. I got 1 point lower, as did my sister.

i got 2 points higher on step 2. but, i did well on step 1. most ppl i know who went way up started lower and went up to the 230's-240's. i don't personally know anyone who went from 230's-240's to over 260. Statistically, it's much harder to improve from the higher scores.

Just got my step 2 score. I got one point better on 2 than 1. Most of my friends are saying pretty similar things, although a few who didn't do so hot on 1 did better on 2 (15-20ish points).

Did you guys follow the "study recommendation" of 2 weeks for your step 2?

Sort of, I started doing Qbank about one month before the test but didn't really kick it gear until about two weeks before. Read First Aid and Crush and studied from those in the two weeks leading up to the test. Hope that helps.

Thanks paisley. Makes me feel ok about only studying for about 3 weeks on and off (more on the last 2 weeks )
