Taking CS mid-October and expecting scores end of December/early January. If I fail for whatever reason, I won't have time to pass the retake in time for ROL submission.

How catastrophic is it to not have a passing CS score (or opting not to release any score) by the time of ROL submission? Should I move up the test date just in case?

I know this feel. Hopefully we both pass and it isn't a big deal, but curious to know the answer.

Just don't release your the result if you fail... There was one person last year at my school who matched into IM without CS result in before ranking. She eventually passed anyway!

I am taking it mid-November, expecting my result early February...

If all programs want a passing step 2 cs score before ranking, the system has to change to have enough early test dates or expedite score reporting.

Many/most programs will not rank you without a passing CS score. It will definitely severely hinder any application and possibly keep you from matching.
