I was just wondering what you all thought about step 3 CCS. I just took it yesterday, and I didn't like it at all. Several of my cases ended very quickly, and I know a couple of them were because I did everything that needed to be done, but some of them I didn't know so well--I got two newborn patients that I think I totally screwed up. Any of you all have similar experiences? Am I going to fail if I messed up a couple of those cases?

You may my friend since i think those cases at the end are more heavily weighted than the rest of the exam..

evenethough the cases represent 25 percent of the time of the exam they account for only 20 percent of the whole exam. Sure you did fine. 95% of first time MD's pass step 3.

From what I understand about the CCS process is that if the case is managed properly from the biginning it may end before the allotted time expires, but if not managed properly, or is more complex, then the case will end at the given time, whether or not you have finished managing the case. The cases are then evaluated by a practicing physician to see if you used best practice management or not. Newboprn cases are hardest... I had already finished 4 months of peds so had no problem knowing what to do, but had not yet switched to medicine (I'm med/peds) so did not do as well on one of the adult cases. I still passed with no problem.
