For those who would find it helpful my experience:

-categorical IM
-studied for 3 weeks during consult rotation
-used crush only as my reading source
-first bought kaplan for qbank for step 3 which has about 1000 or so questions, did not like them, felt they were outdated and explanations were not good, ended doing only 300-400 qs from this source, was able to return part for a refund
-then got UWorld, has 1300 questions, did them all and read all explanations whether I got them wrong or right. Scored 62% for total.
-practiced the CCS from the CD, FSMB gives us, did each several times to get the feel of the program but did not do anything further on the cases than that.

The step experience--
-1st day, 350 qs, felt like step 1 and 2
-2nd day, shorter, 120 qs then cases
-all of my cases ended early, can't really remember them though

Passed with score similar to those I obtained on prev steps.
PM w/ specific qs if desired.

I'll comment as well in case this might be helpful

-Studied in the evening for a few weeks (while doing Gen Surg internship)
- Used only Crush
- no practice questions. The only thing I practiced was the CD they give you with your registration. I wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the cases and how to navigate the system.

-First day sailed along pretty well. Thought the questions were fairly straight forward. Finished without really too much fatigue. Time was not an issue at all (I had felt rushed a little on Step I)

-Second day the multiple choice questions seemed to get harder for me. Some of my other resident colleagues felt this way as well. The cases went pretty well. Just have to practice the CD and make sure to cover all your bases. I finished them with plenty of time to spare. Once the system is clear you've done a good job, it will spend things along.

- I scored the national average or somewhere thereabouts.

**if you are someone who has done fine throughout on the Step's and you put a little bit of reading time aside for review of odd ball syndromes/pathologies then you should do fine on Step III**

I agree totally, Kaplan is worthless, outdated and completely incoherent. What a serious waste of time and money, they should give that money to charity.
