How much time does it take for a step 3 application to be processed ? I am planning to apply through maryland. Does the state board you are applying through make any difference in the process time?

It depends on whether you are applying online or via paper application...but I called FSMB yesterday, and the lady told me if I wanted to take Step 3 in May not to apply until mid/late April if I was applying online. She said an online application takes about 2-3 wks and an online application takes 10 days...and once processed, the you have 90 days to take the exam. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply.Guess it makes sense now that one should apply only a month in advance of the time one wants to take such an exam. So its quite unlike step 1 & 2 where one typically applies more than 6 months in advance.

Dont forget, once you get your permit, you still have to schedule your exam days with prometric. The longer you wait, the less likely you will get the days you want. In the example previously cited, if you knew that you were going to schedule your test in May, I would apply in the beginning of March, that way, the whole month of May will be in your 90 day window, but you will get the jump on other applicants to schedule the days that you want
