Hi there,


when is the best time to take the step 3 during the residency and why? thanks.

ASAP from what I understand but it depends what state you are in. In some states you can take it right after you graduate but others you have to wait until you've completed your first year of residency.
I suspect the first year of path residency is going to be fairly useless preparation for step 3.
