Has anyone studied for step 2 of the comlex without taking time off rotations?

I have a scheduling issue, and I don't know what to do.

My school gives the month of july off to students for board studying, if they choose to take it. They can also schedule their rotations. I had to schedule my core EM rotation that month (I am interested in EM), because my school's clinical education department scheduled my core EM rotation near the END of my fourth year, making it almost useless for gaining experience or getting a reference letter.

In august, I do a required rural rotation, and from sep-dec, I want to schedule my elective EM rotations (i'm planning on applying to allo and DO programs).

Also, how important is it that I take the step 2 early anyway? would it be a wise decision to schedule in january during a vacation month?

I have scheduled my comlex for the end of june. I have a month of geriatrics, inpatient peds, outpatient peds, and family med between now and then. Aside from inpatient peds, all the other rotations are 9-5, mon-fri schedule.

Is this doable, or am I kidding myself?

between the kaplan series, boards and wards, secrets, I'm not even sure what to use at this point.

please help.

It sounds like a good plan to me if you want to keep your schedule the way you have it set up. The rotations you have until June are ideal for your situation in terms of the hours. The only thing I would suggest is that you either move your vacation month somewhere between your sept-dec rotations, or, if you are going to take it in Jan, as opposed to June, realize that your scores will not be back prior to the DO match (feb).

hey OP: i go to the same school as you! heh anyway I would say that you dont need that time off to study as long as you study hard throughout 3rd year, especially during familiy med, and IM. I took the month off, ended up taking the test in the 2nd week of that month, and had the other half of the month as vacation. However, if you did good on step 1, you can hold out on step 2 until midway thru 4th year, that way a bad step 2 score wont hinder your interview chances. But the bad thing about that, is that you have to juggle interview season with studying for boards which IMO is terrible. I also applied EM, and matched DO. So even if you do take that month off you can still match in EM, because i did it. Judging from your light rotations, its definitely doable. Best of luck!
