Step II score before 9/1?

Just had a quick question what is the difference of taking Step II prior to 9/1 (application submission date) and just releasing the scores if you take it after 9/1?

I am your avg medical student with avg scores and wanted to improve for step II but just trying to figure out when to take it and make myself a stronger applicant. Any information would be a great help. Thanks!

No difference. When you fill out ERAS, you either put "taken exam, waiting for scores" or scheduled (and you put the month and year). The USMLE has an option of automatically rereleasing your step 2 score or you can release it yourself. There is really no big difference in taking it before the 1st or right around the first.
