I already have my ECFMG certification, and I want to finish with all USMLE examinations. What do I need to do to sit for USMLE step III test before I get into a residency program?
I know that all states ask for at least 1 year of training in the USA, and others even 3 for IMG's, but I've heard that it is possible to sit for the exam before starting a medical residency, and that actually it's a plus for some program directors.
So, do I just need to send an application to the state medical board? I live in Texas, and I know that this state asks for 3 years of postgraduate medical training, but Arkansas, Puerto Rico, Wisconsin, and another one wich I don't remember right now, ask only 1 year of PGME.

Thanks in advance

Apply thru CT.There are some other states too which will allow u to take the step but CT is fast and allows multiple attempts. Its the one preferred by most IMG's.
Go to FSMB website and choose CT as the med board and just go from there.
