Got my step3 score today, 82.. a little disappointed..my CCS was not well done. Well, at least I passed.. I am going to apply fellowship this year, wondering how much weight the program will look at this step3??

It depends on the fellowship. If you are gunning for Cards or GI, you are in big time trouble.

no, not a GI/Cards person..but all subspecialty seems competitive though

I think it matters to a certain degree, but by far a lot less than step 1 does for residency. I have been told by others in my program applying to GI that several GI programs screen for 90+ on step 3 but these were very competitive programs.

Based on my own experience applying for cardiology, board scores did not seem to matter much. They seem to mainly care about where you did med school, where you are doing residency, your research, and your letters.

Thank you guys. I hope the fellowship thing will cool down a little next couple of years. and thank GOD, I am thinking of hem/onc but still pretty tough, I guess. I wish I had more time to prepare the test.//

I guess it all depends what field you're in.

For those of us in General Surgery applying to fellowships in the future, we're all taught to do well on our yearly in-service exam (ABSITE).

Like Blade notes, it depends on your specialty. I don't recall putting my Step scores down anywhere on fellowship applications (but was asked about our in-training exam scores).

Then again there were like 4 surgery questions on Step 3 so I cannot imagine why they would care! 😉

I think usually they just care if you took it and passed it. I doubt anyone is going to give serious weight to your step III score. I would worry about the rest of your application.
