I was wondering if maybe someone could suggest the steps and/or timeline that I should take in order to start a track in optometry. I'm currently entering my soph. year in undergrad and only recently narrowed down the health care profession I want to get into to optometry. So, I'd highly appreciate some insight on how to go about moving forward. Thanks! 🙂

As of right now, you should be focusing on your academics. During your spare time, you should find optometrists to shadow (different settings like private, hospital, etc). Shadowing hours are required in the optomcas (the application). The experiences will help you decide more if you want optometry or not.

Depending when you want to start on your application. For me, I graduated last summer and I started working in a private optometry office. In addition, I also took my OAT and finished my applications.

But if you want to go straight to optometry school right after graduation, then you will have to do all those during your 4th year.

Of course you can also join clubs, etc to help with other stuff in your application. :]

Like I said though, as of right now focus on your academics! Upper division courses are difficult.

Good Luck!
