i bought a litman cardiology 3 and want to take the smaller diaphram off so i can have a bell but it is on there pretty tight. has anyone had that problem or do you have a suggestion for how to get it off? thanks!

Yeah, the pediatric diaphragm is on there pretty darn tight. I thought I was going to break it! I have a good pointy serving spoon that I very gently stuck in there to pop it off. If you have strong nails, that should do. Jut give a quick good tug and it'll come off, no poblem.

Yeah, don't be afraid to manhandle it a little...mine took a lot more force than I would have thought.

A doctor told me that the cardiology 3 was designed such that the diaphragm did not have to be removed. I don't know whether to believe that or not...Anyone have any insight?

Firm pressure w/ a diaphragm produces the same effect as the bell. Transitional or translational diaphragm tech or something like that.

It was tough, but just use your fingernail. You won't hurt your stethoscope...and you want the diaphram off anyway, right?

No. Firm pressure with either surface of the Cardio III produces diaphragm effect. Light pressure apparently produces bell effect. Most people take off the peds diaphragm to make a traditional bell. Any bell will act like a diaphragm when pressed with firm pressure, though.

To get the peds diaphragm off, remove the snap-on thin rim. Then the diaphragm comes off easily. Then you can replace the rim. Do not try to take off the diaphragm without removing the rim, as this is how you will damage the diaphragm.
