Hi,

Other threads seem to recommend the Cardio Littman III for residents but I was wondering if this would be good for med. school or if there are any better alternative (up to $250ish). Or do med schools force kids to buy a certain model/have certain requirements for what scope they should buy?

Littman Cardio is a fine choice. I have an ADG but wouldn't recommed it (wish I had gone with a cardio). It really doesn't matter which one you get her, and definitely don't spend $250. Never heard of a school forcing a certain model.

It's a great gift, but some med schools give the students stethoscopes. where is she going?

Trying to make up for the times in the future you are going to sue your friend?

$250? You must be banking on the fact that you are going to make a lot of money in the future. Anyway, Get the Cardiology III if you have the cash as that is the best for students because it has a peds and adult side. For other rotations, the peds side can be converted to a traditional bell for low frequency sounds. It's $135.99 at Steeles or $139.99 at Allheart but you can get free shipping or 5% off with and 6% cash back.

Hi,

I have a friend going to Med. School and want to get her a stethoscope, but have no clue which one as I am in Law school studying to be a Malpractice lawyer. This may be one of the funniest things I've ever read on this site.

Maybe you should get her a crappy one so she makes more mistakes that you can profit from.

that's exactly what i was thinking--in this case i'd get her the worst one you could possibly find. seems to me that around halloween, you could get a plastic one at some costume shop . . .

I think littmann II is the best choice for now..

Seriously. The OP probably wanted to be specific in his career aspirations to show he means business. You know, to assure that we give him the best and most complete answer to his inquiry without any "funny stuff."

I'm noticing that most people are suggesting Littman III. My uncle got me a Littman Lightweight II S.E. for my graduation; anyone know if this will be sufficient? The difference in cost seems to be about $100, so obviously I'd like to avoid paying extra out-of-pocket, but if there's a sizable difference in quality I'd have to go ahead and pay for more.

naw, don't bother buying a new one. You can buy a new one if you want in residency, but just having one is sufficient during med school

I've even had residents and attendings that carried around super cheap stethoscopes and asked for mine to borrow when they felt it was necessary!
