What best stethoscope can you recommend. I have an electronic one but has too much background noise.

Littmann 3M cardiology III vs. II or any other you know.

I'd go with the Littmann. I had a Welch Allen Harvey whatever and it was ok. The dual tubbing on the Rappaport tend to rub together and that creates added background noise.

I like my current Littmann and that seems to be what most of the residents here use (regardless of speciality).

I got the Littmann Master Cardiology in Medschool....7 years later still in great shape and haven't wished I had anything else. I personally like the single (vs double) tube - much quieter. Also I like the single sided tunable diaphragm.

Littman Cardio III is probably the most expensive I'd go.

I got one at the start of medschool, and although it's probably "too much" of a stethoscope for FM (listening mainly for rate/rhythm, clicks/no clicks, murmurs vs no murmurs --- instead of breaking down every single little vibration)... it's held up just fine.

You can certainly get away with much less of a scope.
