I'm leaving tomorrow for CS, and just curious: Anyone have any trouble getting a stethoscope through airport security? You know, heavy metal bell and all... I really don't want to have to check luggage, but I'd like to know in advance, and there's nothing on the TSA website about stethoscopes...

Anyone testing on tuesday in chicagoland? See you there!

no problems with stethoscopes whatsoever. good luck!

No. In fact, it's almost the other way around. My reflex hammer's handle is rather sharp for the Babinski reflex, and security simply asks me to confirm that I'm a doctor. Strictly speaking, no. But I say "yeah" anyway, and they let me on through.

Of course, now that I post this publicly, the terrorists know and reflex hammers will be barred from all flights now. :[

But if my plane ever gets hijacked, you'd better believe I'll be smacking terrorists over the head with my stethoscope and performing unnecessary trachs with the end of my hammer.
