Well, by reading many of these threads it would seem that most of you have had interviews or have some coming up, and alot of you have already been accepted. Well this thread is not for you, this is for those of you out there like me who have not received anything despite applying very early to many schools. I have applied to 25 schools, I am complete at 5 of them, but still no word. This is starting to depress me. I know its my MCAT holding me back, but what if when my new MCAT score comes in almost all of the spots are taken? Then what will I do?!? I guess I am just driving myself crazy. I mean I have a back up plan, but I still want to get in this year so I wont have to go through this again. All I am asking for is just one friggin interview! Is that too much to ask! Who else is in this boat and what your doing besides crying yourself to sleep. :scared:

woah. you are only complete at 5 schools and you took the august mcat. Why would you expect interviews so soon if you check the august MCAT box. I wouldnt worry about spaces being left either, since if you look at past cycle you will find people who sent their primary in november/dece,ber (some even february) and still got in. I think you need a break from SDN. good luck:luck:

hi noshie. don't worry about where everyone else is on sdn. each applicant is different. plus, you re-took the mcat and most schools hold your application until the mcat scores are sent out. schools are not going to have almost all the spots taken by then because there are a ton of pre-meds that took the mcats when you did. so their applications will be in the same spot as yours. i think dr. kuba is right, take a break from sdn and focus on YOUR application. try to have all your secondaries complete so that when the mcats scores are released, your application is already done and ready to be reviewed. good luck!!!

Relax, you'll be fine.

Most of what I said was sarcasm, I guess that didnt come across since it was typed. I was actually worried about spots being taken because I got a letter from AZCOM saying that they could hold my application if I wanted them to until the Aug MCAT or they could review it now. It also said they had already almost filled up their 2007 class and if I choose to wait there probably wouldnt be any spots left. I dont even SDN everyday! You guys have way more posts then me! Dr Kuba you have over 1000 posts and we joined in the same month!!!

there are schools taht haven't even STARTED interviewing yet. a school may say that their class is almost full b/c they've received 'x' amount of deposits, but that doesn't mean that pple accepted to that school and obliged to pay the deposit won't later change their mind if accepted elsewhere. man, i can't believe im giving someone else advice on staying calm and not freaking out over the process...😉

what can I say? I spend a lot of time by my computer.. in my defense, there are certain people that joined after us and have 3000+) lol

wow AZCOM is nearly done with filling their class?! It's not even October yet! Hey Noshie, don't feel bad. Your stats are competitive enough to get in. And remember, schools generally give out more acceptances than spots available. So... as long as you get the chance to interview (anytime during this season) you'll still have a chance for a coveted acceptance spot. Good Luck !!!:luck:

Noshie's stats WILL be competitive once he/she gets their August MCAT back. As it stands now, the MCAT isn't competitive. I just wanted to clarify that to people who might read through this thread and Noshie's mdapplicants and get the wrong impression.

"Competitive" should be somewhere close to average. Last year's matriculants averaged a 3.45 overall and a 24.5 MCAT. Yes, there is some hope, but you gotta be realistic too. It's not likely to get an acceptance when your GPA is nearly .5 below the average without a significant increase in MCAT scores. If your GPA is low, you generally need a higher than average MCAT. Even with really bad circumstances the first time around, is a 10+ point increase realistic?

There are other possibilities, though, if the OP doesn't get in this year. There are schools that guarantee you an interview if you pass their postbacc program. I know one guy in my class with a <20 MCAT, but he did well in the postbacc program in Erie and was accepted to Bradenton. Actually, there a several people from the Erie postbacc program, but I just don't know all their scores.

As for timing, a lot of schools haven't even started interviewing yet, and a lot of them interview til the end of April. There's a lot of time left. If you can really get a good MCAT score then you plenty of time to get in somewhere. Just realize that it might not be your first choice. It might not even be in your first five choices.

I don't want to sound neagative, but I do want to sound realistic. The time to put a backup plan into motion is right now. I remember so many people in the last cycle who were put on waiting lists and continued to hold on and on and on with hoping to get accepted, until it was too late to do anything else at all. A few of them got in off of the waiting list, but not until the end of July. You said you have a backup plan, so just make sure to put it in motion in time if you don't get an acceptance. Good Luck!

i agree with scspod

Agree as well, and it's nice when people are occasionally honest on this board. Sometimes people are just a little too nice, and it's ultimately detrimental to the person that's receiving the advice. There is a way to be constructively critical while still not buttering someone's a$$ by giving them unrealistic hope.

Don't sweat it.

Once your Aug MCAT scores come in you'll hit overdrive. But right now a lot of schools are waiting on them to even look at your file so don't stress.

Now here's a little bit of encouragement... the one interview I had, my host and tourguide said that their interviews were in spring (one in April IIRC) and they clearly got in, so there's still plenty of time for the cycle to heat up.

If there is anything I am, it is realistic. I have already applied to my back up plan, a 1 year postbac medical science masters at UNTHSC (TCOM). I won’t know if I get it until next semester. If I don’t get that, I have another back up plan, just retaking classes and stay with my internship for another year. That is not what I want to do, I really want to get the postbac cause it’s almost a sure admission (or as close as you can get to one) if you get awesome grades. I don’t think that I am competitive, nor do I ever claim to be. But I know that grades aren’t everything so it doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t plan on a 10pt increase, I never averaged that high on the MCAT practice exams anyways. I guess I never thought that the schools are not even looking at my application until late October. Thanks for making me realize that. I don’t like sugary comments, keep the negative coming. It keeps me going if I know what people really think. I am a big girl, I can take it.

Make sure the schools have absolutely everything they need for your application to be complete so that it is only your MCAT scores they are waiting for. Call them, email them - go through all 25 on your list and make sure of it. Once they have your scores you'll start to hear. As long as the scores are solid, you shouldn't be worrying right now! You have done all that you can! :luck:

You have a legit shot this app cycle if you reach around 22 imo(its not a patricularly good opinion, so take it at its worth.) But you seemed to have a great plan, so if not this cycle, then I am sure you will be a doctor in a few years anyway. If you do get a 22, or close to it, I would also add the new TN school and the other new schools if they start accepting applications.

noshie dont worry, inshallah everything will work out for the best. and no don't be worried...they cant fill up the class by november...i mean, most DO schools dont even have their application deadlines till jan-march!!! trust me, you'll be okay...

I love the Farsi mixed with English, it sounds just like the way I speak Farsi.

AZCOM is full of **** if that's what they told you. I know for a fact that they haven't even interviewed enough people to fill the class. So stop worrying and go do something to take your mind of the whole process. I'm sure you'll do fine and good luck!👍
