I submitted my optomcas application (which was complete) in late December and have only heard back from 3 schools (applied to 8). The ones I heard back from were rejections, some I'm really anticipating hearing from these other schools. Should I be concerned? Should I call and see whats taking so long?

Do you guys think I have a chance to get in? I have a 3.0 GPA but a lower science GPA, got a 300 on the OAT, but I have worked at Lenscrafters for 3 years and have pretty much aimed my life choices at optometry since middle school. I have really good optometrist references as well as one from the chemistry department chair at my school and a microbiology teacher, and have shadowed countless hours. Along with my optician (not licensed though) work at LC, I think I have a fair shot.. do you?

Hey, I have similar stats to you, 3.00 GPA, lower science, 310 OAT, and I got 2 interviews. I have not heard back from some schools like PCO, NECO, NOVA, which I really would like to know about 🙁

I would be suprised if you didnt get ne interviewss. Did you have sections below 300 on ure OAT? Keep updated on your info from schools and stay positive.

Feel free to PM me for more details

well, i would be concerned. given that you have heard 3 rejections and 5 nothings after 3+ months it doesnt look good. Its possible you could still get in if any of the schools are still interviewing. I would call the 5 schools to check up on things. I think reallistically you wont get in this year, but i think that next year could be an entirely different story. I would retake your OAT to try to get 330+. Submit your application to optomcas as soon as it allows you (july august?). It could very well be that your stats would have gotten you an interview if you applied earlier. Good luck!!

I had a section at 280 and 290, wasnt pleased with my scores at all. I havent heard back from PCO, NOVA, ICO, or a couple others, though i did get rejected from NECO. I'm starting to come to terms with the fact that I'll have to re-apply next year and take the OAT again over the summer, but hopefully I can get an interview at a couple places. I really think that I can show them how dedicated I have been to optometry for the last 8 years. I'll keep you updated if you do the same! good luck!

Would you consider IAUPR? As of what I know, The school is still accepting applicants.

Considering that GPA and OAT scores are the primary means of judging your candidacy, and everything else in secondary (in my view), I don't think you should be surprised by these results or lack thereof. Sorry if that's harsh. If you still get an interview, awesome, but definitely prepare yourself to reapply with improved OAT scores.

Call the schools.

I had competitive stats and hadn't heard from UH, IU, or OSU. I called them, well just one school, found out that the OAT people had switched my last name with my first name; so all the schools were still waiting on my OAT scores. However, none of them called me or said anything about waiting on them (this is 3 months after submission).

The reason I cite my case is b/c 3 other schools had figured out what was wrong on their own.

:-\ That 280 and 290 probably aren't really working in your favor. Why haven't you tried to retake the OAT for this application cycle? I would call the schools ASAP and if it sounds like their sitting on the fence with your app at all, tell them you're retaking the OAT, cram as hard as you possibly can for it, and take it as soon as you can. It might sway them. I had a higher OAT, but a lower GPA and about the same amount of experience and I gained 3 admittances (UMSL, SCO, AZCOPT). Good luck!
