Still waiting for that first interview request....

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am a 3rd year med student. I did not receive my first interview invitation until late October. Ultimately, I had 10 interviews and 6 acceptances. It is still early. No need to panic.

They do not make this easy on you.

That's good to hear.

do you mind sharing about when you got most of your secondaries in? and THANK YOU for being so encouraging 🙂

I didn't get my invites until very recently, and I was complete for over 2 months, so ya your time will come 🙂

I was not complete until late September because I had to wait for my premed committee letter to be sent. That was a holdup for me. I finished my secondaries during the next couple of weeks after I was complete.

My first interview invitation was in late October and then I had interviews in November, December, January, and February. It is still September. You have plenty of time so keep the faith.

While this sounds encouraging, I can't help but still feel uneasy about it for a couple reasons. For one, people who were complete after me have recieved invites, so this makes me feel like I've already been reviewed, probably unfavorable if I haven't heard anything yet. Two, even though he only applied 3 years ago, the number of applicants has risen by thousands since then, and I feel like it was a different ballgame.

Sometimes I feel like I would give anything just to learn exactly how this cryptic, seemingly random process works. I swear if I get in this year, I'm getting past those admissions office doors and telling everyone their secrets ala deep throat.

I'm getting nervous too, but I was probably complete later than most SDNers. I've gotten one intreview (state school) and two rejections so far (this has me the most discouraged). There was a good post somewhere on here awhile back from LizzyM about how long the process actually takes to go through applications, so don't get discouraged. I am dealing with my situation by looking at no news = good news, i.e. I haven't been rejected yet

Still waiting here too . . . Utah was the last to request a secondary and the first to request an interview (I interviewed a few weeks ago). Did any of you apply to DO schools too? I am surprised at the difference. I have received eight DO interview requests this month, and still have seven completed MD yet to hear from.

See, I totally understand that it takes a long time, what I don't understand is why someone who was complete after me would hear back before I do. What's the explanation for people hearing out of order? I'm sure it's a rational explanation and they don't just review randomly around certain dates, it just drives me nuts thinking about it.

I can only assume that is because they put you on some "maybe" list and the other person was a higher priority to them. I could and probably am wrong. This entire process is like sausage to me... I have no idea how it works.

Some schools actually do review apps randomly (Rochester), which makes no sense, but whatever they can do what they want. But in the cases of ppl complete after you getting interviews, that just means the school really really really like them and want to meet them asap. (Yes, as much as we mere mortals do not believe this exists, there are applicants school fight over instead of the other way around lol 🙄). But just because you didn't get into the first batch of interviews doesn't mean they didn't like you, they may just have not really really really liked you, (they only just like you). In that case, you get an invite in a later batch.

Like I said, I just got 2 of my 4 interviews with in the last week, and I was complete at those schools for over two months each, each school already had interviews going before I even got an invite. Just sit tight, they will come if you've done all the right things.

This is nice to see, maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm still waiting for my first too... I think ZiggyDoc nailed it on the head. If you haven't gotten rejected from a school where there is no formal status saying "on hold", just take it as good news that you haven't gotten that rejection yet.

I'm feeling the pain and agony too... but it will happen soon, I'm confident of that. On a side note, being a Cleveland sports fan has given me a lot of experience with these types of feelings....

Hey question for all those who are "complete" at school....I just recieved an e-mail from VirtualEvals saying that my LOE's have been released to AMCAS today around 1pm..yet when i go to AMCAS it still says "not recieved"...how long is the turnover from the letter being released to AMCAS until they arrive at your school? thanks a ton 👍

Took about a day to get to AMCAS (it is a holiday today, so don't expect much) and then 1-2 days for the schools to record as having it.

This is from my experience. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reassurance guys. The "different pile" system (really really like, like, meh, and rejection) is the only way this makes sense in my mind. I don't understand why schools want it to be such a black box process. I guarantee the admissions office would receive TONS fewer annoying calls and status checks if they just kept us abreast of what position in line our applications were in or what pile they had been put in. Maybe the challenge of updating the application status for all of the applications is too great?

AMCAS should make them available to the schools within a couple days. With that said though, some schools are really slow at uploading them. For example, AMCAS sent my letters the end of August, and a couple schools like NYMC only "received" them about a week ago.

i know its sept and its still early, but when does it get too late? should we expect invites in dec/jan, or do most interview invites come around this time (sept/oct)?

Oh and i'm on the same boat guys, no M.D. interview yet! It's crazy how early D.O schools give interviews compared to M.D. schools. I'm not surprised though, I have really average stats and a low MCAT compared to the average, I'm hoping my ECs pull thru for me though!

Good luck everyone!

I find it hard to believe that AMCAS as a whole would take Yom Kippur off, and I don't know of any other holiday today. Am I missing something?

Google doesn't have a clever holiday pictorial on their main page so there CAN'T be a holiday today 😉

This is the most nerve racking process.... when will it end!?!?

Even when you get your first invite, it wouldn't get any easier. I have attended quite a few interviews so far and I'm still refreshing my email every 10 minutes waiting to hear from other schools! Even after interviews, then comes waiting for acceptances or getting off waitlist. After that comes waiting for the nail-biting financial aid letter and then Second Look and then deciding between schools and then.................

I'm surprised students make it through this process each year. March of the Penguins?

Yeah but me, I just need to get in.

:scared::scared:don't worry I have 4 rejections: mayo, UCSF, JHU, Duke

No interview is better than straight up rejections.

Well technically you got your interviews very quickly after being complete, while i think most of us have been complete for almost two months now. Its disheartening since i've gotten a few rejections already (a mixture of reaches and low tier). 🙁

As before... when is too late to not have any interview requests?

I finally got an invite!!!

I was so convinced I wasn't going to - Don't give up hope people!

Wow... congrats! I hope mine is coming soon :xf:

And let's not stop at one... hopefully more to come for all of us!

Great job! I told ya they will come.😀

Yes you did 🙂 Very hard to believe until that e-mail actually shows up, though :-D

Now I only have 2 weeks to prepare! 😱

good luck! and don't worry; i have an interview on thursday that i only found out about at the end of last week. still feels like enough time to prepare 🙂
