Hi everyone! I was recently accepted into Seton Hall University and Stockton College in NJ.. I'm torn between the two schools and am wondering if anyone can provide me with some insight comparing the two programs.

Stockton is cheaper than SHU and has a NBCOT exam cumulative pass rate of 95% (compared to SHU's 81% pass rate). I've heard varying opinions about each program and students' levels of confidence/preparedness to enter their level II field work placements... just wondering what everyone else has heard about these programs from OT's, in the field, and from students.

Also, anyone else considering these schools? Thank you!!! 🙂

Hi congrats to you @OTstateofmind !! Just wondering, did you hear via email or regular mail? I'm still waiting to hear back 🤢

Thank you @bnm292 !! I heard via regular mail from Stockton on Monday 3/10 and by phone call from Seton Hall yesterday! Good luck to you!! I hope you'll hear some good news soon! 🙂

I hope you don't mind the poor review of Seton Hall- but every and I mean every OT I have ever spoke to has had poor things to say about the OT students coming out of Seton Hall (i.e unprepared, etc) The way they do their acceptance and allow so many of their undergrads in with barely any bar to meet( other than paying the bill!) allows an overall under par student coming out of their program. I have heard good things about Stockton though... Just an opinion..

Thanks for the input @SunnyDee37 ! It's very much appreciated.. I've heard good things about Stockton as well and am leaning more towards attending that program.. Just want to see what others have experienced/heard. Thanks again!

The only thing I can say about Seton Hall is the area is not ideal (congested, expensive, etc) and the tuition is pretty high whether in-state or not. Stockton on the other hand is cheaper, in a more suburban area, reasonable cost of living, etc. I might be a little biased because I'm planning on going to Stockton too (yay!) but it's still true! I've heard nothing but good things about Stockton from students and recent grads.

Woo!! What do you think you are planning to do as far as housing (assuming Stockton is where you'll attend)? @RedDevilOT I live about 50 minutes from campus and am still debating whether or not commuting every day will be practical considering the rigor of the program and amount of group projects that will be required..

As current Seton Hall 3rd year student in the OT program I feel that they have prepared me very well. I don't know where you are hearing about how Seton Hall students not being prepared, but many hospitals and CI's I have spoken to from Kessler and several school districts in the nearby area of South Orange always have high praise for how prepared Seton Hall students were compared to Kean and Stockton. It depends what you want and what kind of dynamic you are looking for, but even though Seton Hall was expensive for me, it was well worth the expense and I feel that the program has prepared me well for my level 2's so far.

SunnyDee, there will always be good and bad reviews about OT programs including Seton Hall. Seton Hall's programs has its pro's and con's as of Stockton's but overall its how you make of your education and your learning from your fieldwork and outside work.

Thank you for commenting @speedyy12 ! I agree with you that everyone is accountable for their own learning and that your experience is what you make of it. I'm still very torn between these two programs and am wondering if you could tell me what you like most about SHU's program and what you like least about it? Would you say it's more hands on or theory based? Thank you!

That's a great question and the truth is I honestly don't know. I'm in a similar situation because I also live about 45-50 minutes away. I didn't think commuting was even an option until I talked to a current Stockton student who told me that a lot of students commute in and even an hour drive in would be possible (in her opinion).

If I had to guess, I would say I'll probably end up renting a place around Stockton though. I would like to be close to campus so I can do group projects and possibly do a graduate assistantship. What about you?

I said it was just an opinion ! Only what I hear dear.

Does anyone on here currently attend Stockton's MSOT program and, if so, wouldn't mind sharing a little bit about what you like/dislike about the program? I've only been in touch with Seton Hall students and it would be nice to hear the perspective from a current or former Stockton student. 🙂

I agree! I will probably look into renting something close to the area, as well.

Hi Everyone,

I will be applying to Seton Hall's OT program at the end of this year, for entry into the Fall 2015 cycle. By the time I apply, I will have roughly 50-60 observation hours with one OT facility, and will have 2 remaining in-process prerequisites. My undergrad GPA was 3.76, and I expect my Pre-req GPA to be roughly 3.8-3.9.

Can anyone tell me how competitive an applicant I am for this school? Also, to anyone who attends SHU and lives on campus, how is the housing environment? If accepted I will most likely relocate to on-campus or off-campus housing, as I live in South Jersey, and it wouldn't be feasible for me to commute almost 4 hrs a day.

Thanks for your replies!

Hi Everyone
I was wondering if anyone who got into Stockton's MSOT program for fall 2014 could tell me when you heard about your interview compared to when it was? I know that they're doing them in mid february, but I go to school over 6 hours away from Stockton so it would be nice to know if I got an interview or not in order to book a flight

Hi OTstateofmind!

Did you end up choosing Seton or Stockton? I'm applying to both schools and curious as to which one I'd choose, IF I even get accepted. I'm attending Stockton's info session tomorrow so I hope I'll be able to meet and chat with faculty who'll be there.
