Please help me decide. The cost is no difference and I am leaning towards a competitive specialty like orthopedics. Stony Brook is a 8 year program with a minimum MCAT score of a 504 while South Carolina (Columbia) is a 7 year program with no MCAT. Thanks!!

Looks like Stony Brook matched 8 to Ortho this year. South Carolina had 4. Stony Brook has a class size of 136, SC 100. Match lists don't tell the full picture. A 504 on the MCAT should be pretty easy. I scored higher than that on my first diagnostic test. No MCAT and save a year is pretty nice. I suspect you are a South Carolina resident so that would be cheaper too?

Stony Brook has a 98% step 1 pass rate and 257 average step 2 score. They also use NBME exams, SC seems to use in house exams and NBME.

Where would you rather live for the next 7-8 years?

I really do think it comes down to where you want to live for the next 7-8 years as those are two very different places. Also, consider how far from "home" you will be and how much effort it will take to get there in good times and bad -- both are almost guaranteed over a 7 year period.
