Stony Brook Waitlist

Not sure- I too am on the waitlist! But I am guessing that it should start moving after the May 15th deadline to give up multiple acceptances.
Also, I am not sure if this info is correct, but I remember vaguely being told that after April 31st we can call to determine our position on the waitlist? Can anyone verify if this is correct?

Eternalrage got off the waitlist last month after three or so months on it, so clearly movement can happen at any time (although my guess is it'll be almost nonexistent before May).
The last time I asked someone at SB, they told me that they never tell you your ranking, even though there is one. It'd be nice if that 4/31 business was true...

I wonder if they will eventually inform us of our ranking on the waitlist.
never mind. I just realized that I was thinking about Upstate and our ranking on the high priority waitlist. Sorry for the false hope/information...

Yep, same here - been sitting on it since the end of Feb. By the way, have we come to a consensus on if they release waitlist ranking (or give an approximate idea of where you are/what your chances are)?
From my own investigating it seems that there is a ranking and we do not get to know where we place. 🙄
Stony JUST sent out it's last batch of acceptances last week... just so you guys know... maybe the waitlist will start to move in two weeks or so?
how do you know these are the last acceptances? i interviewed in Feb and haven't heard anything at all yet, not even placed on a waitlist.
I have a friend who interviewed kind of early on (in January) and just got accepted this week. The revisit is Friday and they don't have time to send anymore invites. I also go to school here and haven't seen the admissions committee meeting. It just makes sense to me that they are done accepting, especially with the revisit being in 2 days.

I just found out that I am on the wait list at SBU. It sucks cuz this is my first choice. The admissions committe said they accept and wait list 300 students total. Does anyone know how many of those 300 are wait listed? I tried asking them for my rank on the wait list, but they said that was confidential.

i've heard nearly half of last year's entering class came from the waitlist.. hopefully we can have similar luck.

I have a question for you chaps: I'm on the waitlist, but I'm out of state. Any word of mouth on what my chances are? Do you think maybe that there's a separate waitlist for us since it's a state school? I imagine that I'm competing for the 20 spaces or so for non-NY residents, whilst the rest of you have a longer waitlist, but more spaces to compete for (?). I'm guessing that my chances are not as good though

A second-look weekend, meant for those deciding between multiple schools. Not all schools have them. Plenty of rolling admission schools sent out acceptances after a second-visit weekend...you just have to choose without an officially planned weekend.

Err...I doubt 80% of the people offered a spot last year accepted...just look at how many acceptances they give out, it's way more than the class size lol.
a gentleman in admissions told me 1 in almost 3 of the accepted actually go. im guessing more like 40-45% accept...
No no, its true. For a class of 108 they accepted 301 (entering class of 06).
they told us at revisit on friday that the class size will be around 118 this year... over the next few years they will making about 8% increases until they get it to about 140. They say its due to an overall shortage of physicians in the country... 😕
They told us that the 300 students included the accepted and waitlisted students. If you think 300 get accepted, how many do you think get waitlisted?
You're right, 300 was total accepted (immediately and off the waitlist)

Hey everyone, I interviewed March 8th, and found out that I am on the waitlist about a week or two after the interview. Do you know if there is any movement on the waitlist? Anyone got off it recently? Anyone withdrawing? Any input will be so much appreciated!!!!

Apparently there is no way to find your ranking on the SB waitlist.
I dont think there has been any movement on the waitlist. I heard there will be sometime after mid May.

At least one person on SDN was taken off the waitlist around February/early March after being put on it in December. However, no one else has reported something similar, so it seems like any real movement will be after May 15th like they tell you at the interview.
And just to confirm: at least two admissions office people have told me over the phone that they do rank the WL, but your place on it is confidential.
it took 3 months for them to tell me i was on the waitlist.. does that put me at a disadvantage being added to a growing list?
You could try having your pre medical advisor call admissions to show that you are still interested and maybe find out what spot you are on the list. They might not even tell them your spot, but that's the best chance it seems.

I was fortunate enough to have been accepted. But I was a nervous wreck up until then, so I empathize with everyone here. Don't lose hope, theres still time!
About two more weeks before the waitlist may begin to move. Fingers crossed! 🙂
