Stony Brook Waitlist

Didn't realize there was a SB waitlist thread so I posted in the other one this morning. I got an email from SB admissions this morning asking me to call. They asked me if I were still interested etc etc and I said yes and they offered me an acceptance on the spot and said a package will be overnighted. To say the least I'm excited as hell cause SB has been one of my top choices from the get-go. G'luck to all those who are waiting.. I know SB gets tons of movement!

Sorry I am new at this , if you do not mind me asking what were your stats and when did you interview?
 
I interviewed sometime in early November I believe. My GPA is about average for SB and my Mcat is above average. Hope that helps.
 
That is not good news! Last year there was ALOT of movement on the waitlist. Did they say by any chance that they expect more in next couple weeks or is that it. Maybe they accepted more students this year that did not withdraw. 😕
 
lol anybody else get the mail about how they put our social security #'s on a public website and we should go get credit report fraud monitoring?
 
haha wellllll i tried not to press for info, I didnt want to piss her off 😛 maybe you should call up w/ a diff question.. and we can all piece the big pic.
 
here's some (slightly) positive news for waitlisters:

I know someone who is currently holding a spot at SB with a 42 Mcat and really good gpa. He's on a bunch of waitlists so chances are good people like this will create some late movement.

See...i don't know what to write over three letters of interest.. i mean.. after a while, i feel like "hey i already told them...now what?" i have written 2 letters so far.. perhaps ill write a 3rd in a week or so..then maybe one of intent because SB is my #1

Awesomeness. Congrats! Just goes to show you, never give up hope! Just want to wish the best of luck to everyone else still waiting for a response.
 
Any waitlist movement, I havent heard anything since my interview and I m dying to go to stony brook- It sucks because all the rest of the people in my position got rejected last week.

-Waiting for the worst to happen

called today, sec said "yah we've seen some movement...I wouldn't say fast...but we've seen some movement." Not too optimistic.
 
I am sorry for posting without having any new information. It worries me that I see alot of updates on many schools waitlist but not Stonybrook. I hope that changes. 🙄 fingers crossed.

this is quitepossibly the quietest waitlist here...does SB get no movement?
 
I dont understand why it is a quiet waitlist compared to the rest of the schools. Obviously it worries me, maybe the committee will meet again soon. 😎
 
its quiet because the secs are tighter to get info out than a safe ;/ they don't even hint at anything, not their fault, just how school policy works i guess. So all you'll ever hear about is people getting called.. IF they decide to post it.. and i dont even know how many SDNers are on SB WL :/
 
after i got accepted off the waitlist (5/22) i 've heard of at least 3 or 4 people if not more. don't give up hope! just be persistant
 
this applies to all waitlisting but since i'm waiting for stony in particular and I check this thread often, does anyone know how the waitlist for stony goes? they say it is ranked but is it just only one waitlist?
to specify, if a person gets off the waitlist, does the first person on the waitlist automatically get it? or does it matter on what type of person who rejected the offer in the first place have a say? so if the person is a white female who rejected the offer, do they replace it with the first white female on the waitlist or would it not matter?
 
pretty sure its first come first serve.. slot opens #1 gets it, #1 doesnt like it, #2 gets it, onwards.

im not a fan of listing my gpa and mcat. to be honest, my mcat was not good. it was just below a 30. but my gpa and EC and LORS probably got me in. along with a lot of determination. My friend goes to stony brook and told me that interest was a huge factor when you are on the waitlist. so i wrote a couple of letters (mailed and I emailed a little something right before may 15th). This was my only acceptance so I was pretty persistant. good luck!
 
hey guys, got off the waitlist today...i wrote a letter of interest, but i told them i would withdraw my other acceptance if they took me. interviewed late december and waitlisted since middle of jan...gluck ppl!
 
The latest is that the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Puerto Rico has been granted accreditation by the LCME. There is still time to aplly for the remaining positions Ive been told...
 
I was accepted from the wait list on Friday. They called me on the phone with the acceptance and gave me the weekend to think about it. It was a rough choice, but I decided to decline the acceptance today. Good luck to all of you who are waiting.

Thank you for posting, means alot to us waiting. Congrats Anthony, and LIRR. LIRR where did you decide to go, or is that private?
