Sunsweet, I hate to tell you this, but I don't think its has to do with the document, it has to do with your program... the free programs don't let you actually write on PDF's or edit them, just read them and print them... I think you can download a trial version of the updated software, though... try googling the Adobe acrobat website... good luck
