SB is a bit strange in the way they fill their class. I am going to take a shot in the dark and say that the class is not filled and there are probably still a couple of spots. There are a couple of people in my class who didn't get their acceptance until July. Furthermore, I am almost certain that they do not reject anyone and instead place those not initially accepted onto the waitlist.

As of right now the class is filled. However, they said that they expect a few people to drop. At this point they will go to the next person on the waiting list.

Anyone have an idea of how long it can be before they will notify everyone one way or the other?? Im on that waiting list too and I have to start planning my next move, but would love to get a call.

I have heard of people getting accepted to Stony Brook a week before school starts...so as far as getting a notification of rejection I wouldn't count on it if you're on the waiting list.

So they will only notify you if you have been called off the waitlist? Well, thats kinda not fair.. They keep people hanging.. I guess thats life... I wonder what those people do getting the call a week before class starts, you have to make arrangements for something like that.. Living, financial aid, etc.... I guess i'd still love to deal with that dilemma tho. C'mon phone, ring damn you....

Yes as far as I know the majority of everyone who received an interview gets the option to be put on the waitlist if they were not initially accepted. People who never received interviews got their rejection letters like a month & 1/2 ago. I agree it is annoying to be left hanging in the air, but that's part of being waitlisted. People do back out at the last second sometimes, therefore they need a long waitlist so they don't have trouble filling the seat. Anyway keep your hopes up but make sure you plan accordingly if you have to reapply. Good Luck!

Hey License, I just read your other response above, congrats on the waitlist call, you must have been thrilled... Best of luck... Im working on Plan B as we speak, but plan B sucks, i'd rather go with plan A... I didnt get flat out rejected, so theres still some shot in the dark.. With everyone being interviewed getting a waitlist, thats a pretty long line, although you did it, so it's not impossible.
So does anyone know if this waitlist is ranked, lottery style, or what?

Anyone who gets an interview at SB is either accepted or placed on the waitlist. This is straight from the horse's mouth.
