I got a call from Stony Brook today, but I missed the call. My pessimistic side says if it's too close to Dec. 1st to schedule an appointment for Stony Brook since they only pick ~40 people. But on the other hand I want to go to an interview just for the heck of it. What do you guys think?

Give them a call back instead of having to sit around and guess. I say the earlier you know the better, that way you know what to do as far as your other school options are concerned.

I made an interview appointment. It's on December 7th. Even if I don't have a shot of getting in here, it doesn't hurt to talk to them. 😀

December 7th? You still have a great shot at getting in. Don't be so pessimistic. Those people with interviews late in the spring are the ones to be worrying. Interviewing in December puts you right in the thick of the admissions process.

... and if you're a NY resident, the in-state tuition savings alone will get you enough down and payments for a luxury car and a house vs your actual situations at NYU or Columbia. 😎

well, that is a minor factor in the big equation. i hope you get to learn the advantages of stony brook because they are not just related to economics (low tuition and thus less dept). stony brook has a lot to offer. when i was making the decision about which school to go to, tuition was not the priority. stony brook school of dental medicine is excellent at everything and if you only knew how much the faculty helps the students, you'd be incredulous. i think stony brook dental students are the most spoiled students in the country. you cannot imagine the level of care and attention we get from our outstanding faculty and our administrators.

I've heard from someone that you have to recruit patients from a local mall because the people are pretty high class. Is that true? But low class size and quiet setting is very appealing to me.

guys do these schools call your cell or your house number? Just curious.

They called my cell number. I think that's the number I gave them.

Do they give out acceptance on Dec. 1st?

i will not comment on your "high class" statement because i dont even understand what you mean. as far as recruiting patients at the mall, well, it's the most absurd and baseless rumor i've ever heard...

Don't go on an interview just for the heck of it.. If you have no interest in the school, then dont waste their time and yours.. Besides, I had my interview there already and you might tie up the phone lines while im sitting here at 6am on dec 1st waiting for my phone call....lol...
